Hotliners
Announcing my first book, out in Fall 2026 with Shabby Doll House
Greetings, friends!
To those who have recently subscribed, thank you and welcome! I originally started this newsletter as a way to hone my writing while keeping in touch with friends. As a long-time denizen of online communities from LiveJournal to Tumblr, I’ve always found personal writing to be most enjoyable when shared with each other.
As you may have seen already, Lucy K Shaw has announced the forthcoming publication of three books, including mine! I haven’t posted here in a while, because I’ve been hard at work revising the draft I finished last year.
Here’s a brief description of the book:
I started writing Hotliners in April 2024, although I didn’t know it was going to be a book yet. I signed up for Zine Club, a workshop held by Shabby Doll House, whose work I’d followed since the Tumblr days. I wrote a few short pieces based on the weekly prompts assigned each week, and they all circled back to the same time in my life when I was working for crisis hotlines as a walking crisis myself.
The support that I got from my fellow group members encouraged me to keep going. I thought it would be fun to write a few more pieces and turn it into a zine. With the help of a friend that I met in a subsequent workshop, it began developing into something bigger, over the course of regular writing sessions (which you’ll probably hear more about soon).
That brings me to my fellow Shabby Doll House authors and their books!
Susana Sevilla Aho - My writing session partner and author of Turn to the Stars
Matthew Bookin - Another workshop friend and author of New Dark
They have written amazing books that I’m very excited for people to read; if you know me in real life, I’ve been yapping about them for months! Our books will be released in Fall 2026. We’ll be sharing more updates in coming months.
In the meantime, you can also follow Lucy K Shaw for the latest on all things Shabby Doll House. And if you’d like to get involved with sharing the books or collaborating in any way, please get in touch.
Looking forward to sharing more soon!
